- 1 bay leaf (large, or 2 small)
- 1 star anise (large, / chakri phool)
- 8 cloves (/ laung)
- 2 inches cinnamon stick (broken to pieces)
- 1 piece nutmeg
- 6 green cardamoms
- 3/4 tsp. shahi jeera
- 1 mace (large strand of)
- 3/4 tsp. fennel seeds (saunf /)
- 1/4 tsp. pepper corn
- 2 cups rice (basmathi)
- 1 onion (small, thinly sliced, optional)
- 2 tsp. garlic paste (ginger)
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, potato go well)
- 3/4 cup soya chunks (/ meal maker, optional)
- 1 green chili (deseeded and slit)
- 10 cashew nuts (optional)
- 1/4 cup mint leaves (chopped finely)
- 3 1/2 cups coconut milk (or water, half coconut milk half water can also be used)
- salt (as needed)
