- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (white, you can use regular whole wheat or all-purpose too)
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 4 Tbsp. cocoa powder
- 2/3 cup sugar (can sub 1/2c. stevia baking blend, but I would only do this if I were making it for myself.)
- 1 1/4 cups almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup applesauce
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips (optional but highly recommended)

Made this gluten-free, using 1 cup of almond flour and 1/4 cup of coconut flour, adding 2 tblsp of water, subb'd applesauce for yogurt and added 1tsp. of Xanthum gum to bind it all together, mixed very well, and let it rest for 10min. TThe cake actually did rise a little and looked great! We just had to add about 20 more min. of baking time for it to fully bake.
Taste was hardly chocolatey or sweet!. Would add more sugar next time for sure, it came out almost decent, would try it again for improvement.
