- 1/2 cup white sugar (or brown, see variation below)
- 14.88 oz. bread flour (by weight or 2+¾ to 3+½ cups, by volume, you can also use a combination of high gluten and all purpose flours, or all purpose flour + a Tablespoon of vital wheat gluten)
- 4 Tbsp. unsalted butter (at room temperature)
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- vegetable oil (for the container)
- 1 egg (beaten for the egg wash)
- 1/4 cup maple sugar (or 2 to 3 packets of turbinado sugar for sprinkling)
