Description
Beautiful, citrus-y stuffed dates are a satisfying snack or healthier sweet after a meal. Dates play an important role in Muslim homes during Ramadan, as they’re traditionally served each day to break the fast — and this recipe makes enough to last several days. The dates are flavored with both orange zest and orange blossom water, which is made from the essence of orange blossom petals. Look for it with cocktail preparations, at Middle Eastern markets, and online. The recipe, which makes about 34, is a Yummly original created by Rania Renno.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. medjool dates (or 12 oz. pitted)
- 8 oz. cream cheese (1 large pkg., at room temperature)
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. orange blossom water
- 1 orange (small, zested)
- 2 Tbsp. chopped pistachios
Directions
- Slit each date along one long side. Gently spread them open, then pull out and discard pits. Give dates a little downward push with your fingers to flatten the bottom and create a boat for the filling.
- In a medium bowl with a mixer, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange blossom water, and half of the orange zest on medium-low speed until the mixture is fluffy, 2-3 minutes.
- Fill a zip-top bag with cream cheese mixture and snip off a corner. Spreading the dates apart with your fingers, pipe cream cheese mixture into each one, filling them generously.
- If making dates ahead, chill them in an airtight container up to 3 days and refrigerate remaining orange zest. Just before serving, sprinkle stuffed dates with pistachios and a little orange zest.
