I have mixed feelings about this dish. First of all, it was delicious. My girlfriend told me she always found canned salmon to be off-putting but she loved these. However, making these were a pain. They were very messy, the cakes fell apart as I was making them (which the recipe warns off) and I felt like I had lost a whole cake's worth of salmon mixture in the process of making them. I also needed more breadcrumbs and an extra egg. Plus, the dredging station meant extra dishes. Ultimately, I'm not sure if these are worth the trouble but they were still pretty good. I didn't find a new go-to meal in these, but I'll likely make them again. I used Sriracha instead of sambal oelek, used a dollop of sour cream to supplement the mayo because I didn't have a full 1/2 cup of mayo, and I didn't make the hot sauce, mayo, and scallions mixture separately and set aside some - I just had one bowl with all the ingredients in it (sans the dredging stuff and oil).
