  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 yellow onion (or small white, peeled and thinly sliced)
  • 4 large garlic cloves (minced)
  • 3 tablespoons flour (all-purpose)

  • 2 cups milk (I used 2% low-fat milk)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves (divided)

    Need to use half the liquid. I agree to par boil potatoes. It takes to long for them to cook. They never got done. I ended making it into to cheesy potato soup.(added more cheese and salt)

    Excellent! I followed everything as described except I used half the potatoes and half the liquid. Resulted in creamy, flavorful potatoes! I would suggest if you make the full amount to double the flavorful ingredients :)

    Directions should include a note par boil the potatoes to ensure they cook well the sauce is not enough to cook them through in the oven without them sitting in the oven for an hour and a half

    Turned out great, cook time was about 40-45 minutes though. I like to add paprika and chili powder for a bit more kick :)

    They turned out amazing! Creamy, cheesy, soft but held its form. My family absolutely loved them. Will definitely be making this apart of our meals. Also used russet potatoes cause it was what i had on hand.

    These were a hit at our Easter dinner. I made them the night before and then reheated right before our meal. It gave the ingredients time to mellow and blend. Be prepared for your house to smell really garlicky!

    Yummy!! Very easy to make and most people have all the ingredients already in house. I did sub fresh thyme for dried. Also used a leek at add more flavor!

    Excellent!! I left out the thyme since my kids don’t like “green stuff” in their food, and it was still full of flavor. Everyone LOVED it!

    Excellent! Tasty! The perfect side for Oktoberfest sausages, broccoli and carrots!!! I sliced the potatoes on my mandolin at 2 to 3mm thick max. Any thicker and you will have hard tats for dinner. So .... just a sidenote, I cooked for 45 mins covered and 30 mins uncovered, plus a good 10 mins for it to rest and get starchy. All told, 90 minutes was needed prior to serving. I used a 2.5 litre Corningware dish, and pressed the potatoes in good and tight with the sauce! I think it would be good to blanche the tats first, or maybe nuke them for 10 mins before you lay them in the dish, to help reduce the overall cooking time a bit. Love these scalloped potatoes!!!
