Roast Beef with Yorkshire Puddings and Gravy
UNILEVER UKDescription
It’s very simple. Take a good piece of well-hung beef – I like beef rib for roasting. Brown it in a pan, then roast it in the oven until cooked to your taste. Using a meat probe takes all the guess work out of roasting…
Set the beef aside to rest – this is a very important stage that makes the meat juicy and more succulent. Use a Knorr Rich Beef Stock Pot together with the roasted bones to make a great-tasting gravy. Serve the beef with freshly-baked, nicely risen Yorkshire puddings and gravy for a roast meal that everyone will enjoy.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 2 kilograms rib of beef (piece of, off the bone, with bones reserved)
- 1 rich beef stock pot (dissolved in 500ml boiling water)
- 2 tsp. cornflour
- 200 grams plain flour
- 3 medium eggs (beaten)
- 300 mL semi-skimmed milk
- salt (A little)
- pepper (A little)
Directions
- Make the batter for the Yorkshire pudding at least an hour or so before you want to cook it. Sift the flour into a mixing bowl. Whisk in the beaten egg to form a lump-free paste. Gradually whisk in the milk, beating to make a smooth batter. Season with salt and pepper. To make sure it’s absolutely smooth, I like to pass it through a sieve.
- Pre-heat the oven to 190˚C, 180˚C fan oven, Gas Mark 5.
- Heat the olive oil in a large ovenproof frying pan. Add in the beef and fry until browned on all sides, for around 5 minutes.
