I love making risotto and pilaf. Usually from scratch but I'm okay with having a GOOD packeted variety.
Living here in Australia I try different brands from various supermarkets, depending on where I happen to be at the time. My favourite is Diamond brand Rice Risotto ( various flavours - - - Mushroom or Chinese Style are family favourites). It is manufactured in New Zealand but widely available here. And as any mum will tell you - - - you can stretch the budget AND your imagination with the addition of all those wonderful little extras in the fridge/pantry. [e.g. minced ginger, mushrooms, peppers, shallots or chives, fresh herbs, cilantro or cress, smoked fish/seafood, bitter herbs, taro, yams, leftovers...….........….]
