- 3 Tbsp. corn starch
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 5 Tbsp. unsalted butter (cold, cut into small cubes--divided)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
