  • 3 cloves garlic (smashed)

    I followed the recipe to the letter. I noticed it didn’t call for flour. Apparently, Miss MJ likes her sauce thin, because that’s exactly how it turned out. I wound up making a roux and after the sauce was puréed, I added the roux to it to thicken it up, which worked well. I also used a food processor instead of a blender.

    purists don't use anything but red chile pods, garlic, salt, water and if needed a little flour and oil for a roux. No onions, or spices.
