- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 orange (finely grated)
- 3/4 tsp. ground cardamom
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs (chilled)
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 3 1/4 cups flour (all-purpose)
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 lb. unsalted butter (cold)
- 1/4 cup flour (all-purpose)
- 1/2 pastry dough (recipe prepared)
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- 1 pastry cream (recipe prepared)
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup strawberries (fresh, sliced)
- whipped cream (to garnish, optional)

Directions
- Combine sugar and orange zest by working the zest into the sugar with your fingers.
- Whisk the sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan over medium low heat until combined. Add half of the milk and continue to whisk until the cornstarch dissolves.
- Whisk in the other half of the milk; follow by whisking in egg yolks. Stir in vanilla.
