Description
We’ve taken the classic Mongolian beef stir-fry, known for its rich flavors of hoisin and soy, and turned it into a noodle bowl meal. Take a tip from Chinese-American restaurants and use linguine. It tends to be much sturdier and more widely available than Chinese noodles. As for the flank steak, be sure to slice it thinly across the grain and only cook until it’s no longer pink so the meat will be tender and juicy. The recipe, which makes 9 cups, is a Yummly original created by Diana Kuan.
Ingredients
- 2 yellow bell peppers
- 1 tsp. fresh ginger (grated)
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 green onions
- 1 lb. flank steak
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp. toasted sesame oil (divided)
- 3 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
- 3 Tbsp. oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp. dry sherry
- 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
- 12 oz. linguine
- 2 Tbsp. grapeseed oil (or vegetable oil, or peanut oil, plus 1 Tbsp. more if needed)
- 2 tsp. chili oil (plus more if you like)
Directions
- Cut bell peppers into 1-inch pieces. Peel ginger and grate to make 1 tsp. Mince garlic. Slice green onions into 1/4-inch-thick pieces, separating out the white and light green stalks and the dark green tops. Set ingredients aside.
- Cut beef against the grain into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Place beef in a large bowl. Add cornstarch, soy sauce, and 1 Tbsp. sesame oil. Stir until the cornstarch is dissolved and the beef is coated in the marinade. Set aside at least 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil. In a small bowl, combine hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, dry sherry, and red pepper flakes, and cumin, whisking until smooth. Set aside.
