- 1/4 cup red onions (finely chopped)
- 2 Tbsp. pickled jalapeño peppers (finely chopped see Recipe)
- 1 Tbsp. chipotle (purée tips & tricks)
- 1/2 Tbsp. fresh cilantro (chopped tips & tricks)
- 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
- freshly ground black pepper (to taste, I always use mixed peppercorns)
- 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese (or Pepper Jack, grated)
- 4 hamburger buns (large, see Recipe)
- 1 ripe avocado (large, seeded tips & tricks)
- 1 tsp. freshly squeezed lime juice (tips & tricks)
- 2 Tbsp. crema (or light sour cream)
- 1 clove garlic (pressed)
- 1 tsp. hot sauce (such as Cholula®, or more to taste)
- freshly ground black pepper (to taste, I always use mixed peppercorns)
