- 1/4 cup dal (Toovar, or Arhar Dal 1/4 cup is 80 ml measurement.)
- tomatoes (2 nos., medium size roughly chopped)
- 1 Tbsp. oil
- 1/4 tsp. mustard seeds (or Rai)
- 1/4 tsp. jeera (or cumin seeds)
- red chillies (1-2 nos. Whole)
- asafoetida
- gluten
- 4 cups water (+ extra as required to cook the dal 1 cup is 250 ml)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. rasam powder
- 1/4 tsp. chilli powder (Kashmiri Red)
- 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 3 curry leaves (as required)
- coriander leaves (plus stems finely chopped Stems add a lot of flavour so dont skip it)
- jaggery (Little, as required, optional ingredient)
- salt (to taste)
