Weeknight dinner doldrums? This Greek-inspired Lemon Chicken will snap you out of it. We’ve paired garlicky, lemony chicken with salty, herbaceous orzo to wake up your palate and get you through the week. This dish is easy enough for a weeknight but also elegant enough for weekend entertaining. And, as always, we use every possible bit of our ingredients, right down to the garlic paper and feta water. Waste not one scrap!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup orzo (or more if desired)
  • 7 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 0.25 ounces feta cheese (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup feta water
  • 7 cloves garlic
  • 2 teaspoons Aleppo chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons dried dill
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup white wine

  • 3 tablespoons butter (staples)

    Directions

    1. Equipment: large pan for chicken, small pot for orzo, grater, strainer
    2. In your small pot, add water and season heavily with salt. Once the water is boiling, add the orzo to the pot.
    3. Place your large pan over high heat. Grab your chicken thighs and season both sides generously with salt and pepper. Drizzle the pan with olive oil and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the chicken thighs to the hot pan.

    First time I made it, I accidentally used chipotle chili powder. It overpowered the rest of the dish. This time I used regular chili powder and only used to taste. Much better but still strong. I can’t find Aleppo, but it makes me wonder if it is milder than the average chili powders. The chicken and sauce were amazing the first time and just as delicious this time.

    Amazing! I didn’t have any feta water so I added about 1/2 cup of the pasta water. I also switched to fresh dill and added a lot of feta. This was a hit, my toddlers even ate it!

    Yum yum yum Used paprika, fresh dill and added a lot lot lot more feta. That must be a mistake in the ingredients.

    The whole scenario repeated in my kitchen, including “where is my salt??... WHERE IS MY SALT?” :) My guests licked their fingers! Me too... I can’t believe something so tasty took only 15 minutes to prepare. This will be on repeat. P.S. I used hot chili flakes instead of Aleppo chillies, and fresh dill instead of dry.

    Very good! I might add slightly less dill next time, but it was good nonetheless. Be sure to brown the chicken well.

    One of the best chicken dishes ever! Every picky eater in my family said so. And I loved that I could actually make it in 15 minutes right along with the video! So many recipes say a time that is so inaccurate but this was right on!! Only suggestion I would make for large families like mine is to prepare the chicken in 2 skillets at the same time. Don’t try to do a second batch in the same skillet as the sauce begins to burn.

    This was SOOO GOOD!! My hubby & brother agree...one of the best! We love chicken thighs over breasts. I love that we used the garlic paper and lemon rinds, was easy prep and made a huge impact on the flavor.

    We really liked this quick chicken dish. We didn’t have Aleppo chili on hand and used chipotle instead; we plan to get some Aleppo chili to compare the results. Next time we will increase the lemon zest to the zest of two lemons as we love lemon, and our lemon trees are over producing!

    Everyone liked it! The orzo was salty, made even more so i think by the feta, but all in all it was a good meal. Salt is easy to adjust, as is the amount of feta! The chicken was great!
