- 3 Tbsp. tomato paste

- 1 1/2 tsp. ancho chile powder

- 3 1/2 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
- 1 cup red lentils
- 4 shiitake mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 Tbsp. masa (ground, optional - it's not a must but I like how it thickens the soup nicely )
- 1 bunch kale (finely chopped)
- 2 corn tortillas (sliced into strips)
