- 2 lb. ground meat (I used 1 pound of ground chuck and 1 pound meatloaf mixture of Veal/Pork/Beef but use whatever ground meat you prefer)
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 shallot (minced)
- 3 slices bread
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup basil leaves (chopped)
- 1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
- salt (to taste)
- ground pepper (to taste)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan (divided + extra for topping)
- 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese (cubed)
- 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (+ extra for topping)
- 4 cups tomato sauce (use your favorite jarred sauce)
- 1/2 pasta (cooked, optional)
- 2 Tbsp. fresh basil (for garnish, optional)
