I browned the meatballs first and that added more flavor and I feel like it helped the meatballs not fall apart. I also used ground turkey instead. Added the garlic directly to the meatball mix along w bread crumbs, soy sauce and an egg. When it was done cooking, I removed the meatballs and used a hand blender to make the sauce.
