- 1 cup cooking oil (peanut, canola, anything light colored)
- 1 cup butter (room temperature)
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup honey
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 1 lemon (large, juice and zest of about 3 tablespoons juice)
- 12 eggs (separated)
- 3 cups cake flour
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. canela
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp. cardamom (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 cup milk
- 1 lb. butter (room temperature)
- 1 cup shortening
- 3 lb. powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla (clear vanilla for a lighter color)
- 1 tsp. flavoring (banana, optional - substitute lemon or extra vanilla if preferred)
- 2/3 cup heavy cream
- food coloring (assorted)
