I grew up with Hemstrought's Half Moons. I've eaten the original from the bakery itself. I longed to have the recipe. They were/are the BEST Half Moon cookies ever! I finally received the original recipe from a friend who got it from the Utica newspaper years ago. The cookie stated above is the original cookie recipe. The frosting/icing that is stated above is good, but is not the Hemstrought's icing. The white is a buttercream icing, not the one as posted. The chocolate is a fudge icing that is heated, not the one posted. And the originals were/are frosted on the bottom flat side, not the top round side. The Hemstrought's Half Moon is not just the cookie, but the frosting with the cookie that completes it. Yum!
