Ended up putting some uncooked pepperoni and poured oil in between the slices to off set the lack of a brush for the oil. Also made sure to deep fry in the base of a casserole dish at 220(in Europe atm, USA I think would be about 450) an was able to turn the base into a french fry to trick the kids into eating a “special” fry.
Everyone liked it from 36 to a 6yr old with picky tastes. All for under 5$ a head.
