Description
White flaky fish marinated in a garlicky citrus juice and then grilled is the perfect weekend afternoon lunch or dinner. Envelop the fish in warm corn tortillas and top it with an array of flavorful, colorful toppings including cabbage, pico de gallo, and radish slices. To give the tacos a smoky kick, drizzle them with a homemade chipotle crema. Not into spicy creams? Top with plain sour cream instead. If tilapia fish is not available, you can use any white fish you prefer such as mahi-mahi, bass, or cod. The recipe is a Yummly original created by Ericka Sanchez.
Ingredients
- 7 Tbsp. lime juice (divided)
- 1 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 3/4 tsp. salt (divided)
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 1/2 lb. tilapia fillets (fresh or thawed frozen, or other white fish such as mahi-mahi, bass, or cod)
- 1 cup Mexican crema (or sour cream)
- 1 chipotle chili in adobo sauce (use 2 chilies for more heat)
- 1 tsp. adobo sauce (from can, or up to 1 Tbsp. for more heat)
- 1 large avocado
- radish slices (for serving)
- lime wedges (for serving)
- cabbage (chopped, for serving)
- vegetable oil (for oiling grill)
- 8 corn tortillas
- pico de gallo (or other favorite salsa, for serving)
Directions
- Whisk together 1/4 cup lime juice, olive oil, 1/2 tsp. salt, the pepper, and garlic in a medium bowl. Place fish filets in a shallow container with a lid or in a zip-top bag. Add marinade, coating fillets evenly. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, preheat a grill for medium-low heat (275° to 300°F). (You can also use a grill pan on the stove.) Make chipotle crema: Put crema, remaining 3 Tbsp. lime juice, chipotle chili, adobo sauce, and remaining 1/4 tsp. salt in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Transfer to a serving bowl or jar.
- Prepare toppings: Slice avocado, radishes, and lime wedges, and chop some cabbage. Set toppings aside.
