- 55 grams margarine
- 1 onion (medium, finely chopped)
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. dried basil leaves (each)
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- 1 kg potatoes (unpeeled, scrubbed, very thinly sliced)

Directions
- Preheat oven to 220°C, gas mark 7. Melt margarine in a small saucepan or microwave. Brush a 10-inch (25cm) pie plate with margarine. To remaining margarine, stir in onion and seasonings.
- Arrange ⅓ of the potato slices in a circular pattern pie plate. Spoon ⅓ of the margarine mixture over top, spreading out onions as best you can. Repeat layers two more times.
- Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and continue to bake until potatoes are tender and crispy brown around the outside edge, about 30 more minutes.
- Let the bake stand for 10 minutes, then cut into wedges and serve.
