Ingredients

US|METRIC
  • 2 pounds white fish (firm, I used hake loins from Costco, which come in the frozen section)
  • 1 lemon
  • masala (below)
  • 1 jalapeño (chopped finely)
  • 2 cans coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (or ghee)
  • salt (to taste, cayenne to taste if you realize it’s not as spicy as you think)
  • chopped cilantro (Optional: fresh)
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind paste (I used the jarred concentrate from Whole Foods, but if you can find real tamarind paste at an Asian grocer, it will be a heck of a lot better)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 8 red chilies (dried, I used arbol chilies)
  • 3 large garlic cloves
  • 2 centimeters fresh ginger (piece of, peeled)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
