- 2 lb. white fish (firm, I used hake loins from Costco, which come in the frozen section)
- 1 lemon
- masala (below)
- 1 jalapeño (chopped finely)
- 2 cans coconut milk
- 2 Tbsp. coconut oil (or ghee)
- salt (to taste, cayenne to taste if you realize it’s not as spicy as you think)
- chopped cilantro (Optional: fresh)
- 2 Tbsp. tamarind paste (I used the jarred concentrate from Whole Foods, but if you can find real tamarind paste at an Asian grocer, it will be a heck of a lot better)
- 1 onion
- 2 tomatoes
- 8 red chilies (dried, I used arbol chilies)
- 3 large garlic cloves
- 2 cms fresh ginger (piece of, peeled)
- 2 Tbsp. ground cumin
- 2 Tbsp. ground coriander
- 1 tsp. turmeric
- 1 tsp. red chili powder
- 1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)
