- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs (to coat tofu)
- 4 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1/2 tofu
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 tsp. minced fresh ginger
- 2 stalks scallion (whites chopped)
- 1 whole large tomato (chopped)
- 1 whole large potato (peeled, cut in 1/2-inch cubes)
- 1/4 lb. beef sirloin (or tenderloin sliced in 1-inch strips)
- 2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
- 1 Tbsp. rice wine (xiao xing)
- 1 cup vegetable (chicken or beef broth soup stock)
- 1 whole red bell pepper (seeded, white membrane removed, sliced in 2-inch strips)
- 3 cups mung bean sprouts (washed thoroughly)
- 1/4 tsp. sesame oil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ground black pepper (powder)
- jasmine rice (for serving boiled white)
- 1/2 cup straw mushrooms (sliced in strips, optional in place of beef or use button mushrooms)
