Description
My sister gave me this recipe in 1969, and I have made it every since! I adjust the liquid ingredients depending on how much sauce I want. I've added mushrooms for something different. Have done this in the crock pot by using less water and cooking on low for about 4-1/2 hours.

- 2 1/2 lb. chicken parts (bone-in, any combo)
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 cup onion (sliced)
- 1/2 cup celery (chopped)
- 1 clove garlic (chopped)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 cup water
- salt
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 Tbsp. red wine
- 2 Tbsp. fresh parsley (chopped)
- rice (or noodles, prepared your way)

Directions
- Brown chicken in shortening.
- Remove from skillet, add salt and pepper.
- Lightly brown onion, celery and garlic (you can add mushrooms, too).
