  • 1 tablespoon daal (chanan)
  • 1 chunk ginger (peeled, roughly 1 tbsp size)
  • 1 serrano chile (green, remove stem and split down the middle)
  • 7 whole cilantro (sprigs of)
  • 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
  • salt (to taste)
  • water (– a cupful of)
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon daal (urad)
  • 1 dried red chile
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
