It took me months to perfect this superbly moist, rich chocolate cake. A little goes a long way. Enjoy this rich chocolate cake with a tall glass of cold milk. Also on my blog


  • 2 & 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 & 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 12-ounce package semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips*
  • 1 cup 1/2 & 1/2
  • 1 & 1/2 cups butter (3 sticks)
  • 5 cups sifted powdered sugar

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
    2. Grease and flour two 9" cake pans , one 9 X 13 pan, or line cupcake cups with paper liners.
    3. Place all ingredients in mixer. Start on a low speed to blend ingredients then increase speed to medium high and mix for about 3 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl as needed.

    Everyone loved it I did it exactly as is in the recipe. I might have put a tad less sugar in frosting also I baked at 350 for 35 minutes in the two round pans. It tasted better the next day
