I didn't have shaoxing wine or rice wine or dry sherry so I used more broth as suggested in the recipe, which makes it halal. No cornstarch but I was fine with a more liquid sauce. I appreciated how the webpage was well written with ingredient substitution instructons and has a servings slider to scale the recipe up or down. I used cherry tomatoes and firm tofu for my vegetables (as I don't like green peas) in this versatile dish. Will make this comfort food again.
