Used Challah bread! Loved the tip about keeping the toast in the oven (200 degrees) while finishing the sauce. The extra bake finished it nicely.
Other tips: I made a maple bourbon syrup to go with it which was great. I also used light brown sugar in the sauce instead of dark and it was fine. (The sauce congeals together while its off the burner but once you put it back on, it’ll fix itself. Feel free throw a tiny bit more water in it. Good as new!)

I had to adapt, since I only had regular bread & no cream, but it still came out amazing. It's very rich though-even the kid with the sweet tooth only had a small spoonful of sauce. I doubled everything & could've gotten away with just making a regular portion of sauce. And we skipped the whipped cream on top.
