Description
Traditional Greek dessert that is just the right amount of sweet.
Ingredients

- 2 cups warm water
- 2 2/3 cups sugar
- 4 whole cloves
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 lemon (small, cut into strips)
- 2 cups raw honey
- 5 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- pastry (and filling:)
- 1 pkg. phyllo dough
- 1/2 cup Earth Balance
- 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts (finely)
- 1 1/2 cups syrup (honey)

Directions
- Prepare the honey syrup by combining all ingredients and simmering for a few minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Place 1 sheet phyllo dough on the bottom of an oiled baking sheet and brush with melted butter. Repeat for 5 layers. Sprinkle 1/4 cup walnuts. Cover the walnuts with a single layer of dough. Brush with butter and then place another 2 Tbsp walnuts. Repeat for 15-18 layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
- Pour honey syrup over pasty while still hot. Serve when cooled.
- The extra honey syrup is fantastic as a replacement for the honey in my granola recipe.
