Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 2 green onions (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons oregano (chopped, plus additional leaves to serve)
  • 28 ounces tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese (grated)

    Directions

    1. Place ground beef, breadcrumbs, onions, garlic and oregano in a large bowl and season to taste. Mix well to combine. Roll mixture into 16 meatballs.
    2. Spray a large nonstick skillet with no stick cooking spray and heat on medium-high. Cook meatballs for 10 mins, until browned and cooked through.
    3. Preheat the broiler. Meanwhile, cook tomato puree in a saucepan for 5 mins, until heated through. Transfer meatballs to a greased baking dish. Pour tomato puree over top. Sprinkle with cheese.
    4. Broil for 5 mins, until cheese melts. Sprinkle with oregano leaves.

    It tastes amazing and it was super easy. Will try again soon. I didn't have any oregano but it was alright without it. And I subbed the puree for a three cheese tomato sauce, that made it more decadent.
