- 2 cloves (or laung, optional)
- 2 cardamom seeds (or Elaichi, optional)
- 1 inch canela (or dalchini, optional)

My first time making butter chicken. I did a double marinade. First time for about 6 hours in a mix of cornstarch, sugar, soy sauce and oyster sauce. (A trick my wife taught me to tenderize meat). Then marinaded as per the recipe. Also used red chilies and added an extra clove or two. Turned out fantastic. Actually better than my favorite restaurant.
