- 120 grams ground meat (pork, chicken or turkey)
- 2 tsp. Shaoxing wine (or Japanese Sake)
- 1 tsp. light soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp. minced ginger (or 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder)
- 1 tsp. cornstarch
- 2 tsp. Sichuan peppercorns (increase to 3 teaspoons if you like your dish extra numbing)
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 3 Tbsp. doubanjiang (spicy fermented bean paste)
- 2 Tbsp. green onion (chopped)
- 400 grams medium firm tofu (or firm, cut into 1.5cm, 1/2 inch squares)
- 1 cup water (or chicken stock)
- 2 tsp. chili oil (Chinese, 1 teaspoon for a less spicy dish)
- 1/4 tsp. five spice powder
- 1 tsp. sugar (or to taste)
- 1 Tbsp. green onion (green part of chopped, for garnish, optional)
- steamed rice (optional, to serve with)
