- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 cup milk (warm)
- 1 cup buttermilk (warm)
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (I used Quaker)
- 1 tsp. canela
- 5 cups unbleached all purpose flour
- 2 cups tart apples (coarsely chopped)
- 1 cup chopped pecans (coarsely)
- oat flakes (additional, or rolled oats, for sprinkling in pan and for topping)
- 1 large egg (beaten with 1 TBSP cold water, for topping)
