I did not boil the apples and just cut the slices thinner. It was perfect. Not mushy and allowed the dough to bake well. I baked for 20 minutes but wouldn't leave it for longer than that. I used 3 tablespoons of sugar on the dough and used about half a tablespoon on top of the rolls before baking. For those looking for something sweeter I would recommend using the full 5 tablespoons of sugar. Would make again. One roll of the Pillsbury dough made about 6 roses. I made 12 with 3 apples.
