Traditionally, it's made with rosehip jam which is quite thick so spreads nicely. Other jams/jellies tend to be more runny so will give messier results. Check the international section of your grocery store to see if they carry rosehip jam - it's absolutely unique!

Really different than any other cookie I make. A welcome addition that is not too sweet. I'd like to try cherry or raspberry jam even though I enjoy the blackberry.

So I made these just now. I should have followed my instincts with just 2 cups of flour for base. Turned out too crumbly .
The pic shows jelly above meringue. Jelly goes on top of crust The meringue can be fussy. Mine is a bit crumbly, and cuts sloppy! That being said the flavor was good .

Turned out great. I want to substitute some other flavors like raspberry, apricot, or peach. Most anything would work.
