First, the app recipe lists “red potatoes”, but the original recipe states “russet” - something that Yummly may need to correct. The recipe itself was just ok. It called for too much milk - the mixture was too runny for my taste. It didn’t call for salt, but it definitely needs it. The recipe calls for green onions but never says where to put them - mix in, just on top, or both? I did add bacon inside (6 slices crumbled inside and 2 slices on top) and cheese into the mixture (1 cup inside and 1 cup on top) even though it didn’t call for that, and after tasting it, I think it would have been so plain without that added inside. Also, 2 lbs of potatoes would have never filled a 9x13 dish. I put it in a square casserole, and it fit just fine.

Yummy! I did make a few changes to lower overall fats. I used 1/4 cup non-fat plain greek yoghurt instead of sour cream, 1/3 less fat cream cheese, just 1 cup of shredded lower fat sharp cheddar, 4 slices of crumbled bacon and 1 cup of non-fat milk (I actually used less than one cup as the potatoes texture was good after about 1/2-3/4 cup. Add slowly and stop when you have the texture you like). A couple of twists of fresh ground pepper went into my mix as well. I can't imagine that this compromised taste or texture as it was creamy and cheesy and a wonderful side to any main you might be serving (I did pair it with meat loaf). So 5 stars for taste and the ease of making adjustments to the ingredients. Will make this again!
