Description
Before acronyms were ever a thing — think LOL, KFC and DWTS, just to name a few — there was the simple BLT sandwich. BLT stands for bacon, lettuce, and tomato, and the lunchtime staple first appeared in American restaurants around the 1920's, like at luncheon counters where laborers and white-colors workers would commonly congregate each day…
From the time Americans have been eating BLT sandwiches, they’ve also been adding their own personal touch to the simple sandwich— whether it’s a few slices of turkey or ham, a wedge of avocado, or a slice of Swiss or Cheddar cheese. Ordering a BLT with mayo on white or wheat bread was so popular that diners gave the sandwich exclusive real estate on menus and also gave it room to branch off into the club sandwich (basically a toasted, layered BLT with meat).
It doesn’t take many culinary skills to make a great BLT, but the ingredients you use can make the difference between a good sandwich and a delicious sandwich.
In our recipe, we suggest using Jimmy Dean Bacon and Hillshire Farm® slow-cooked, oven-roasted turkey breast, sliced ultra-thin. Jimmy Dean bacon, known for their deeply satisfying rich, smoky flavors, is available in hickory-smoked or applewood smoked varieties.
Not only will the entire family adore this wholesome, homemade turkey BLT sandwich, but with just seven ingredients, it couldn’t be easier to whip up
