This is an excellent recipe made as is. (To those who followed someone's suggestion to use apple cider vinegar, I am sure your corned beef tasted awful! I think that person meant apple cider. I can see adding some apple cider would be good. But, NOT vinegar!
I might try half broth and half apple cider the next time I fix corned beef and cabbage.)

Just what I was looking for. I added 1/2 cup of distilled spirits. I wanted to add a pint of beer, but didn't have any handy. I could have skipped it, but I'm the cook and I get to decide. I cooked it on HIGH for about 8 hours. The meat was tender and fell apart. 12 guests didn't leave much for corned beef hash the next day. I should have added more potatoes. I had leftover carrots but the potatoes were mostly gone.

Very flavorful. The meat was not as tender as I expected and we probably could have cut the cabbage amount in 1/2. That said the meat was devoured.

Amazing & so easy! Followed exactly & it was full of flavor. Meat was perfect & vegetables were not over cooked. Thank you!

Made this. No flavor and was definitely not pink, tasted like a roast, not impressed.recipe called for a spice packet that I never read anything about. The meat was on top of the liquid and never got near the flavors.

I followed the directions, cooking on low vs high, and it turned out perfectly!!! I used to simmer all in a pot (how my mom cooked it as I was growing up), but slow cooking was much better. Corn beef was tender, and all the vegetables had great flavor! It’s a keeper!

This was very good. I only put in 1/4 cup of Broth because I knew there would be a vast excess of liquid. It was plenty. Putting the cabbage in near the end is a good idea, otherwise it would have been a soggy mess.

Unfortunately tried with the apple cider vinegar:(
Should have stuck with the original recipe. The taste was just vinegar through and through. So disappointing. I gave this 4 stars because it prob would have been wonderful if not for the vinegar choice. I’m not sure why the Irish would eat it like that.

Judy, do you add the beef broth and all other ingredients along with the 2 cups of Apple Cider Vinegar???

...but the REAL secret to this dish is to add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar while cooking. My family never liked this dish, until a friend from Ireland told me this secret! : )

So good and simple to make! Made it before work, cooked on low for about 10 hours. My friends loved it! I wish I had leftovers!

Added 2 bay leaves and used all beef broth. Also, just put whole garlic cloves on top of carrots & onion before added corned beef. Plan on adding cabbage 1 hour before done. No potatoes
3/17/19: this year, 2 cups beef broth, 2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp cider vinegar & 1 tsp dry mustard. Put beef on bottom, sprinkle with some of spice mix and 1 bay leaf. Add carrots & potatoes & 1/2 onion on top. Sprinkle rest of seasoning. Pour broth over enough to cover. Add cabbage 2 hours before done.

hard to mess this one up, If you follow the instructions you will end up with left over potatoes and cabbage. Put in more corned beef than you think you want.

I love corn beef and cabbage and always make it for St Patrick's day, but my recipe is very different. I use mustard seeds, dill seeds, caraway seeds, and bay leaves. I have never used beef broth or bullion, just add enough water to almost cover and a beer.

Not bad, but about twice as many ingredients as I would normally use. The onion and garlic provides plenty of flavor, so I ignore all the extra seasonings.

I made this in the crockpot udong the high setting, meat was not as tender. Ill use low setting next time, otherwise this was tasty. A low msintenance dinner for sure!
