- 1 1/4 cups brown lentils (or green, I actually used Beluga lentils in my dish)
- 4 sweet onions (medium, 1 1/2 lb/700 g before peeling)
- 3 Tbsp. all purpose flour
- 1 cup sunflower oil
- 2 tsp. cumin seeds
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. coriander seeds
- 1 cup basmati rice (I used brown basmati and adjusted the time accordingly)
- 2 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- salt
- freshly ground black pepper
