- pinches turmeric powder
- 1/2 Tbsp. sesame oil (1/2 - 1 tablespoon or sunflower oil / coconut oil)
- 2 tsp. coriander seeds
- 2 tsp. dal (bengal gram, / kadala paruppu/ channa dal)
- 2 dry red chilies (units, adjust according to preferred heat)
- 1/2 tsp. rice
- 1/2 cup coconut (grated, fresh if available)
- 2 tsp. sesame oil (or sunflower oil/ coconut oil)
- 1 tsp. mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp. fenugreek seeds (/ mendiyam/ methi)
- 1 red chili (dry, adjust according to preferred heat)
- pinches asafoetida powder (gluten free - for a gluten free dish, use gluten free asafoetida)
- curry leaves (few)
- 1/2 cup broad beans (sliced avaraikkai)
- 1/2 cup banana (diced)
- 1/2 cup pumpkin (red, diced parangi kai/ seetafal)
- 1/2 cup sweet potato (diced sakkarai velli kazhangu)
- 1/2 cup white beans (dried, mochai kottai)
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. tamarind pulp (an Indian gooseberry sized lump of tamarind)
- 1/4 cup coriander leaves (minced)
- 1/4 tsp. salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 cup yams (diced chenai kazhangu.)
