1 SERVINGS
- 1 oz. rye whiskey (for this drink, I prefer Rittenhouse 100 Proof Bottled in Bond or Wild Turkey 101 proof, although any good rye will work; see Notes)
- 1 oz. cognac (or brandy, nothing too expensive; a moderately priced brand like St. Remy, Raynal, or Korbel works pretty well)
- 1 oz. sweet vermouth (the red stuff; Martini and Rossi is widely available, and of good quality)
- 1/2 tsp. liqueur (Bénédictine, if you prefer a sweeter drink, increase this to 1 teaspoon, which is what Taggart recommends)
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- lemon twist (for garnish, optional; some people prefer a maraschino cherry)
