- 1 cup sugar (divided in half)
- 2 cups whole milk

- 2 large eggs (plus 3 large egg yolks)
- 4 oz. semisweet chocolate (or bittersweet, coarsely chopped or chips, again, it is necessary to use good quality chocolate)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
