- 1 liter ale (2 x 500ml bottles traditional real, or traditional hard cider, TFD prefers cider)
- 0.5 liters mead (honey, TFD addition, optional - replace with hard cider or ale for traditional version)
- 6 apples (Bramley or Cox stewing, 500 gr, peeled and cored, about 300 gr)
- 2 Tbsp. calvados (apple brandy TFD ADDITION - optional but recommended)
- 1/2 tsp. grains of paradise (freshly-ground, TFD addition, very, VERY optional but TFD likes it)
- 1 nutmeg (freshly grated)
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 150 grams light brown sugar (demerara)
