- 2 cups flour (all-purpose)
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. espresso powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup coconut oil (melted, you can use canola if you prefer, but I highly recommend the coconut oil here)
- 2 eggs
- 3 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- chocolate frosting (Salted Caramel)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter (cut up into smaller pieces, about 8)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt (to taste)
- 8 oz. semisweet chocolate
- 3/4 lb. unsalted butter (at room temperature)
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups sugar (sifted confectioners’)
- 2 tsp. coffee granules (instant)
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (salted, see prep directions below)
