First, I want to say this recipe tastes great. Second, the 4 stars are because of the way the recipe is written. I am totally guilty of skipping the blog and going to the recipe. As I follow each step I get to the end which says "cover and refrigerate overnight". OH MY GOODNESS! I have the recipe done and the oven heated and a hungry family. In the oven it goes and it worked out fine. No overnight refrigeration necessary. This is not clear in the directions. It's good to know that it can be prepped the night before but it isn't necessary.

This is amazing! I guess, anyway, as my son keeps requesting I make it so he can take it to breakfasts. Every time I’ve made it, I’ve hoped he will bring home some leftovers for me but there is never a crumb left! Today there was just a tiny bit of the brown sugar/butter goo left on the bottom and I actually resorted to scraping it out with a spoon to try it. Oh, YUM! We make maple syrup and I have sent this with him to breakfasts at our Sugar House and they eat it served with our fresh, warm syrup. We serve a lot of pancakes and waffles, but this dish seems to be the requested one. I haven’t put the powdered sugar on top but have sent it with him in case they want to add it themselves. I’m not sure if they do or not. It has become my goal to get a piece of this most-requested, not-a-crumb-left dish the next time I make it!

Great! I did modify it a little by sprinkling cinnamon on the layers as I always use cinnamon when making French toast. Turned out great the bottom layer turned into a carmelized goodness!

Soooooo delicious! My hubby hates leftovers and he asked for what was left of this dish the next day!

Made this for breakfast this morning. Prepared it last night and had it in the fridge by 8pm. Put it in the oven at 6am and ended up cooking it for the full 45 min on the lower rack. The flavor was great but the texture not so much. What happens to butter when its heated? It melts. So with the bottom layer of bread soaking up all the brown sugar butter mixture all night and then heating it up to cook what do you think happens? The butter melts in the bottom layer of bread creating a soggy bottom. I just can't see how you can avoid this and I'm very surprised more have not mentioned it. Also to get the entire loaf of texas toast into a 9x13 pan you must squish it in. I see no sense in cutting the bread to make it fit as the recipie says to...you might as well just use less bread slices then? I'd love suggestions for the bottom layer soggy-ness if anyone has some!

Very good!. Easy to make, nice flavour....I reduce the brown sugar to half a cup as it is very sweet otherwise
