Svenska köttbular in Swedish, these meatballs are packed with flavor. This recipe for Swedish meatballs includes breadcrumbs, potatoes, a combination of pork and veal, and a host of spices. Fried in butter and oil, the meatballs are then simmered in a creamy gravy for additional juiciness and flavor.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 150 milliliters heavy cream
  • 2 potatoes (small, boiled and mashed)
  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 250 grams ground veal
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 pinch nutmeg (optional)
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 400 milliliters warm water
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 200 milliliters heavy cream

    Directions

    1. Pour the bread crumbs into a bowl and cover with heavy cream. Let sit until they have mostly been absorbed.
    2. Add in the potatoes, pork, veal, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, nutmeg, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix by hand and pinch off sections to form medium-sized meatballs.
    3. In a skillet, melt in the butter and olive oil and fry the meatballs in batches and set aside.
