- 1 tsp. kosher salt (I use Diamond Crystal Kosher salt. Other salts are more salty. Use less.)
- 2 tsp. Chinese 5 spice powder
- 1/2 tsp. fresh ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp. espresso powder
- 3/4 cup Dutch process cocoa powder
- 1/4 lb. butter (melted and cooled)
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. molasses
- 1 Tbsp. fresh ginger (grated, from about a 2 inch long piece)
- 2 eggs (room temperature)
- 3 Tbsp. turbinado sugar
- 3 pieces candied ginger (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1/2 tsp. canela
