This turned out to be a fantastic dish! The sausage we used is from a local Italian grocery call Graciano’s in Des Moines, Iowa. The sausage makes the dish! The addition of cream cheese made for a smooth and silky sauce without being runny and the mozzarella on top formed a nice cheesy crust. The only minor modification I made on this dish was the addition of a little fennel seed. About 1/2 tsp. We love the flavor of fennel in an Italian dish. We made a full recipe and that was enough for us to have a second dinner. What a special treat and the use of the squash shells to cook the dish in made for a fast and easy cleanup. Can’t wait to make this one again!
